Origin-Enchiladas originated in indigenous Mesoamerican cultures, where corn tortillas were filled with simple ingredients and topped with chili sauces—portable, nourishing, and deeply tied to daily life.

Enchiladas have deep roots in Mexican culinary tradition, dating back centuries to indigenous Mesoamerican cultures. Over time, especially during the 20th century, enchiladas evolved alongside Mexico’s shifting cultural and political landscape. As Mexican immigrants brought their foodways to the United States, dishes like enchiladas became symbols of cultural identity and resilience. Whether served at family gatherings or featured in cookbooks and restaurants, enchiladas reflect a rich blend of indigenous heritage and modern adaptation—proof that a humble tortilla can carry generations of history and pride.
